3 V's of Big Data and Cloud services.
Now a day’s Big data and cloud
services are the buzzing words in the IT industry. Even though Big data and
cloud services are a bit similar, but technically they are miles apart in terms
of functioning. In this contemporary, rapidly growing world every sector such
as medical, social, banking, manufacturing produces a huge volume of data known
as Big data and the internet facilitates the process of data generation.
As we know Big data is nothing
but the large volume of data it becomes difficult to process the data traditional methods
and means using an on-hand database management tool. IBM, HP, Oracle are some of
the leaders in the Big data management service provider industry.
Cloud computing basically
binds all resources of the computing under one roof, hence it is a perfect tool
to process, manage the Big data and discover useful information out of it. Example
the data processing framework called Hadoop uses Google cloud services.
Gartner
analyst Doug Laney introduced the 3Vs concept in 2001 to analyze
Big Data, which are Volume, Velocity, and Variety. Basically this 3 v’s
define the Big data and also help us understand the nature of information and
available software.
Volume: As the name itself depicts, the Volume is the amount of data that is stored in
structured, semi-structured or unstructured formats. Mostly 80% of the data is the unstructured format which contains various data formats such as image, video,
SMS, mobile, etc.
Velocity: It is
the speed at which data is created, stored, analyzed and displayed. For example,
live streaming of football game where the data is transferred in real-time or
near real-time. The data can be of any format video, image, numbers, etc. All
the data that is generated around the world is stored in large data warehouses
and with clickstream, the small amount of data is processed. Which when a user
clicks a certain portion of the data from the warehouse is processed and
delivered to the user.
Variety: Big data
comes in a different form of data such as structured, semi-structured or
unstructured which are basically video, image, audio, etc. formats. Around 80%
of all the data generated in the world is unstructured data.
Advantages of using Big data with cloud services.
1.
Manage data in a better way: It
allows the user to manage the Big data in a better way without having to have
all the technical knowledge of Big data management.
2.
Speed and scalability: It allows
the user to manage the Big data without having an infrastructure that could
handle Big data technically.
3.
Visualization of data: The end-user
can visualize the data in a more innovative way and make predictive
analysis, interpretation, etc.
4.
Overcome maintenance cost: The the biggest advantage of cloud services with Big data is the user need not to have
all the infrastructure, hence reducing the Capital cost and all the overhead,
maintenance cost associated with it.

V's are the major key players of Big Data analysis.
ReplyDeleteWell written. It's interesting to understand this link between big data and cloud services. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThank You. I have a better understanding of 3Vs now.
ReplyDeleteGood one. Keep it up
